James R. Knickman, PhD

Dr. Knickman leads the Health Evaluation and Analytics Lab (HEAL). Prior to arriving at NYU, he served for 10-years as president and chief executive officer of the New York State Health Foundation (NYSHealth), a private foundation dedicated to improving the health of all New Yorkers, especially the most vulnerable. Prior to NYSHealth, he was the vice president of research and evaluation at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in Princeton. He previously headed a research center as an NYU faculty member in the 1980s and has published extensively on health care financing and health system reform issues.  As director of HEAL, Dr. Knickman is involved in developing grants and contracts for analysis and evaluation projects, overseeing the HEAL research portfolio, conducting research projects, and directing operations.
